New York, NY (July 27, 2005) - Michelob Light sponsored the first-ever Music Video competition at the 28th Annual Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF) during July 15-31st at the Asia Society in New York City. The winner, Steve Mallorca, was chosen by a panel of judges which included Serena Kim, features editor, Vibe Magazine and Suchin Pak, MTV. The winner was announced at the Asia Society on Saturday, July 23. "I'd like to thank Michelob Light and Asian Cinevision for their vision and support in creating this music video competition and providing filmmakers an opportunity and forum to continue honing these important skills," said Steve Mallorca." Beyond the generous prize, I've walked away with this with much more... a piece for my reel that was actually commissioned, and even more important, more experience to take onto set the next time.” Through the support of Michelob Light, the AAIFF was able to commission filmmakers, Christine Simpson, Prashant Bhargava, Larilyn Sanchez, Riza Manalo, Steve Mallorca, and Michelle Ling-Yee Chai, to create five 30-second music videos that celebrated the spirit of independent filmmaking and highlighted the AAIFF and Michelob Light. The videos played separately throughout the film festival before many of the film screenings and were shown a final time during the Final Cut Party. Kim, Director, Sales Development & Community Relations, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “Asian CineVision plays an important role in the development of Asian American film makers in New York City and we congratulate the winner and all the other filmmakers that participated for their innovative and creative music videos.” “We are delighted and honored to have Michelob Light’s support at the AAIFF this year,” said Diana Lee, festival director of the AAIFF. “Thanks to their generosity, our filmmakers had a blast making the videos and were able to flex their creative muscles.” Asian CineVision (ACV), a non-profit media arts organization is dedicated to the promotion and development of Asian American film and video arts, produces the AAIFF.
